I have lived in Texas for 20 years, 16 of them in San Antonio, and I have yet to find an ice cream soda like I grew up with (Boston). We just came back from Marble Slab Creamery, where, to my horror , they simply poured Coke on top of the ice cream!! That's a float!!ice cream, soda water, chocolate syrup . And, yes, I've tried making it at home, and it doesn't come out right!

Sounds like an up north concoction , but, when we had soda fountains you could get just about any mix you wanted.Cherry coke, vanilla coke (yummy) chocolate coke (yuck!) suicides,floats you name it! I'd still like to get my hands on that vanilla syrup they used.

Olmos Pharmacy really is the best. Legendary ice cream sodas. But if there are other places in town, I sure would like to hear about them... and try every single one!
