My husband and I are considering a move from Bossier City, LA to SA, poss. a job transfer to Lackland. We are both Texas born and raised, and have never been really happy here. Actually, miserable is the word. The area (Shreveport/Bossier City) is very...I suppose dirty is the best word I can think of (I hope you understand what I mean) and the crime rate is horribly high. Also, we have a 2yr old son, and a daughter on the way, and the ELEMENTARY schools were described to my husband as a "rough place". Not to mention that all the schools are WAY below any type of standard. We have been to SA numerous times, but we know little about the area. My main concern is that the area that we live is a safe place for my children, and that the schools are good. Would you say that SA has that? Are there areas we should avoid living or going to? What advise would you give to us about the area?

I don't think that if you're husband gets a transfer you will have any problems with the NW area. The elementary schools in this area are nice. Very few of the subdivisions have any problem that you would worry about.

Sorry, I was typing fast...I do have a two year old, so I don't have time to proof.

Ok, when people ask about education and that sort of stuff, with all kinds of misspellings, it is totally out of character. The NW area is good. anything about 5 to 10 miles out of Lackland you'll be happy with.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Kind of contradicts itself, doesn’t it? I have a tendency to add letters when I’m not paying attention to what I’m doing. Thanks for the info!

Basically anyplace outside of Loops 410 from I-90 west clockwise up to Randolph will fit your bill...however, to commute to Lackland (I work there as well, on Security Hill) would mean it would be better to not go too past 281 eastward on the north side (if you know what I mean). We've lived here twice and up near Helotes, and with the hours I work (0600-1400), I can make it to the gate on the south end of Lackland in 25 minutes. There is some crime in this area, but less than what I would consider average for the population of this area; and as stated the schools are pretty good!

Cheers! M2

SA is a big city and yes we have problem spots but there are a lot of nice safe areas too. For the commute to Lackland the best place would be the far west side which is the western section outside the loop. it has many good schools and is growing fast, try westover hills. The problem areas are mainly confined inside 410 so try to avoid that area.

Here it is folks: Proof positive of why they should put the new AFCYBER Command here in San Antonio and not in Bossier City; even the folks who live in Bossier City think the place is a dump! How the heck would the new command attract people to move there?

I don't think most who has been to Bossier City would disagree with the fact that it isn't the greatest of places; but there is heavy competition amongst numerous states and cities vying for the new AF Cyber Command...

Honestly, where would you put it without having to build a whole new building? Security Hill is pretty much maxed out, as all the competition for office space between AFISRA and JIOWC proves; and it would been to be located there to be in close relation with the organizations here that will fall under it (67 NWW, etc). I have a feeling that San Antonio is in the top three of possible locations; but parking on the Hill is already a pain and I don't think (or at least I haven't seen) any plan that addresses how do deal with adding such a large organization to the existing infrastructure. If anything, the area to the right when you come through the Security Hill gate (south of it) is the only possible location, and that would require a lot of construction. Other places bidding for the new HQ have existing facilities (to include a former Navy prison!).

Cheers! M2

and when people correct other people's spelling/grammar over the internet makes them look retarded. Honestly why in the heck are you wasting your time correcting other people? does this make you feel better? are you depressed or something?
