Hello, first post here. We are getting ready to move to SA and I will be working at UTHSC. I am hoping someone had an idea about what the commute from Schertz to UTHSC might be. I am coming from the Philly area where my 10 mile commute took about 30-45 min, but I am not sure how SA compares to the Philly area.

Schertz to the Medical Center is gonna be around 20 miles, with a pretty straightforward shot down I-35 to loop 410. There is about a 2-3 mile stretch of 410 that's under construction, but several areas have just finished construction, including the US 281 interchange, so once you get past Broadway/Airport Blvd. area, you'll have smooth sailing to the Fredericksburg Rd. exit, which you'll take to get to the Med Center and UTHSC. All told, it shouldn't take much longer than 40-45 minutes or so unless there's a bad wreck somewhere (which does happen).

Hope you enjoy SA! Schertz is a booming area, and has a lot of exciting prospects for the future

I'm also moving to San Antonio soon and am seriously considering the Schertz area (will be there next weekend to house hunt). I'll be working kind of near the North Star Mall so would that make the commute from Schertz about 25 minutes? My commute in L.A. was about 45 minutes (10 miles) and in DC it was about an hour (30 miles in the car pool lane) so anything less than that will be heavenly.

Thanks! Is that during rush hour? Is there a peak traffic time or is it pretty much the same regardless of the time?

I estimated that during rush hour. Traffic will get slow at all the major interchanges, but should flow smoothly beyond the construction I mentioned, as you'll have 4-5 lanes most of the way.

AS for getting to North Star Mall, you can probably subtract 15 minutes or so from the time it takes to get to UTHSC.

Depending on where you park at UTHSCSA, Babcock may be a better exit for you (it's the next one past Fredericksburg.)

I concur that 45 min. is probably average during rush hour, give or take 10 minutes depending on what part of Schertz (i.e. how far from I-35) you're in.
