I know Travolta doesn't live around here...but I just thought I'd add a "close encouter" in TX.
Should have known that was Texas I guess. Wow, John Travolta. Did you see the little dog ? Did it have wings? Cute movie!

Avoco? Wonder what that was about?

The Carol Burnett place is still on Commerce, just closer in to downtown. Wish I could have bought it and put it on a lot over here! Charming house. I think I posted pics of it before here in a thread about my neighborhood.

The Avoco thing I just had and was forming a post with the url's and lost it. Mahncke Park History This one is on history of Mahncke Park I think. I was looking for info where this Borglum character who did Mt. Rushmore had spent some time living in an old pumphouse near the Botanical Gardens. Supposedly working on sketches and such for the monument. More later........!

I know something about this!

Ron Howard was doing pre-production on The Alamo movie and he was supposed to direct it. Well, things fell through and so some rookie director came along and directed the movie, which flopped big time.

Oh well.

Talking Carol Burnett

From what I understand she lived there until she was 7 and then moved to California.

Funny because I was interested in the house way before knowing she'd lived there. It is a charming little Victorian... Queen Anne Cottage you could say. I was glad it didn't get torn down!

As for the post topic in general, I can't say I've had any close encounters unless you count seeing Spurs and news anchor people (which I really don't!).. I used to work in Alamo Heights and many of our customers were from those two groups of people. I have to say that the news folk were the rudest! The Spurs guys were usually okay except for a couple who were jerks.

My brother is a 1/2 brother from my dad's first marriage. Carol Burnett and my brother's mom were best friends and drinking buddies. Both moved to San Diego from San Antonio. One year my brother and Carol Burnett and her grandmother rode the train together from San Diego to San Antonio. My parents met them at the train depot and picked up my brother.

That story has been floated in the family ever since Carol Burnett went on to be famous. Years ago my brother lost contact, but did rub shoulders before she was famous.

For a couple of years I was an acquaintance of actor John Schneider when he and his wife had Faith Productions in San Antonio, 1995-1997. I built his first web page in the fall of 1995. The web site had it's limitation in those days.

No, that one doesn't have "Close" in the name. Just Encounters. But I would imagine some of them get close.

I'd like to see those pictures. Here's the site for the failed attempt to found the town of Avoca in the area of present day Alamo Heights.
Brackenridge Park - A History Guess I misspoke slightly sorry.
