I won't throw the baby out with the bathwater like rd2007 seems to be suggesting but, he or she is correct in that it is a parental responsibility, whether they know what there kids are doing or not. It's my job to know where my child is. yes job. It may be a labor of love but it is my responsibility as a parent.

If your kids lie to you, and you're falling for these lies, then you my freind, have failed as a parent in my books.

I grew up in the Jay area, and seen it all first hand. Most kids that were trouble makers either had parents that didn't give a tihs or a disfunctional family with a single working parent. In both cases, they failed as parents.

Are we talking about graffiti or just tagging here?

Where are all the public graffiti parks at in this city. Other cities have them. We have dog parks and lame skate parks. Why are there not any places for people to do legal graffiti at?

I love graffiti art but hate unartistic tags.

I would personally never consider graffiti art, but to each their own. Hopefully this park isn't paid for by tax dollars though.
I believe the original intent of this thread was a problem with taggers and not people "expressing their artistic side".

As a single mom, I can say that I am offended by this comment. Neither of my kids ever got into any serious trouble. Yes, I do consider tagging to be serious. A single parent family doesn't automatically make that family dysfunctional.

Tagging is not graffiti. Graffiti has a little bit of art to it but tagging is nothing but defacing private property.

And it's not that my ATM was tarnished. Our ATM was tarnished, our area was tarnished, our city is being tarnished.

I agree that maybe something positive has to be done with today's youth but in my personal opinion, it goes back to the parents. They are the ones that should be teaching something to these kids before we should have to intervene.

Something needs to be done to demonstrate to these kids that this will not be tolerated. I don't think they believe that anything will happen to them if they are caught.

Maybe start arresting them, give stiff fines to them and the parents if underage, community service and maybe cut off a finger for 1st offense. I don't know, I'm just brain storming right now.
