Does anyone know of nice jazz bars, or places to have a drink and have nice live music?

It's been discussed before, but to recap...

The Landing (Jazz on the River) Club isn't bad...

KRTU also has info on the local jazz scene, as does the SA Current (http://calendar.sacurrent.com/calendar/browse.asp?timebase=3&whatTypeID=0860 - broken link). A few more are listed here.

Good to see there are other jazz aficionados on here!

Cheers! M2

Default Luna

Is Luna still open on San Pedro? and a landmark, is it the Tuesday morning jazz club by the Sunken Gardens? Also, give a listen to Dan Kleins show, Lush Life on Saturdays at 11 on KSYM 90.1

Carmen's De La Calle is a club that is often overlooked. You might want to check that out. On Thursday evenings, you can sometimes find Branford Marsalis' bass player Eric Revis and former groove collective saxophonist David Jensen playing for peanuts. I think they're playing next week.

Beyond that, Musical Bridges around the World will be bringing world class jazz in September in December. September 17 is legendary jazz pianist and vocalist Eliane Elias and Marc Johnson. In December it's modern trumpeter Tom Harrell. JazzSAlive is the third weekend in September and will celebrate their 25th anniversary with some HUGE, legendary jazz musicians. (though I don't think I'm allowed to publicize who they've booked yet!). We've also got a legend booked for our big Spring concert at KRTU (not letting that one out of the bag yet, either). Past concerts we've held have included McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, Poncho Sanchez, Michael Brecker, John Scofeild, Dianne Reeves, Dave Brubeck, Wynton Marsalis, and Branford Marsalis.

I'm the morning show host and Operations Manager for KRTU and if you ever want to know what's happening with jazz in San Antonio, check the "jazz calendar" or the 'on the scene" column on our website (publicized earlier).

Best,

MTC

Thanks for the heads up about JazzSAlive. I'm definitely going this year. I always seem to miss it.

My oldest son is a huge jazz lover, and actually spent his high school graduation night at The Landing with his buddies. Kind of an odd venue for 17 year old boys, but they had a blast.

Luna is still open... It's not exclusively jazz, but it definitely one of the most eclectic clubs in San Antonio. http://www.lunalive.com/

Mine is also into jazz, R&B....among others. Mostly music with roots and retro with some contempory rock and eclectic music that I'm not sure has a name!
I will definitely pass the JazzSAlive info on to him.

Manthechange...I missed the web site link.
