I have seen people running/walking up and down Canyon Golf Rd. It is very near Stone Oak. There is also a trail/park called Stone Oak Park. It is next to Canyon Ridge Elementary School off of Stone Oak Pkwy.

I don't know of any areas of Stone Oak that aren't "safe". Traffic? Well, you always going to be around traffic but Stone Oak has done a good job of building sidewalks in all the areas and bike lanes in some. Be smart about running with traffic and it really wont be a problem. If you are willing to go south of Stone Oak a bit, Hollywood Park provides tree-lined road running with very low traffic and a strong police presence. The large infestation of the deer in Hollywood Park also provide plenty of distractions. Im always amazed how close they let me run near them.

Check out the Run Gear Run, the store organizes group runs in the area on Tuesday and Thursday.
