Can anyone tell me if there are any deconstruction centers or salvage centers/yards in San Antonio? I was looking for places where I could find used doors, windows, and any other housing (or construction) elements. Or even if there are any good flea markets in SA? Any ideas? Thanks!

I've never been, but my father-in-law says you can get all sorts of good deals at Habitat for Humanity. They have brand-new stuff--just may have some dings or dents. They are located on or around Probandt St. Sorry I don't have more details, but F-I-L is on vacation right now, or I'd call and ask him!

Here in Austin we have a Habitat for Humanity resale store. I bet there's something like that in San Antonio too.

You might also want to subscribe to "freecycle.org" It's an international "tradeing post". Everything is free....even the membership. You don't have to have something to trade in order to pick up something. When you join, you will subscribe to the San Antonio area....then sit back and watch your mailbox fill up with free "stuff". A lot of it is junk....but I've seen some bargains exchanged. Just post a "WANTED" item and see if anyone responds. It's also a great way to get rid of old furniture and items to someone that might fix up or use as is. I had a very heavy sleeper sofa that needed unholstering. I was ready for a new one, and found a nice family that needed it for their kids rec room! They came and picked it up.

There are rules that they provide about saftey and all. Any and everything you trade is at your discretion. Plus it keeps things out of the land fills!

A great place is a Busey's Flea Market on 35N. There are several vendors there that have some great stuff and a place that sell reproduction vintage hinges/pulls/knobs etc. They are open Sat. & Sun. and it's only a dollar to get in--have fun.

There is a third store at 8125 Meadow Leaf ( off Marbach Rd.) 210-674-7500. It's a smaller store but very clean.

The Habitat Center on Probandt is the only one that carries any used stuff and they have quite a bit. The others deal in over stock and scratch and dent. I'll also second Free Cycle you'd be suprized what you can get, and get rid of, on Free Cycle.
