SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - The U.S. city of San Antonio unveiled a deal on Tuesday that will make it the first U.S. city to harvest methane gas from human waste on a commercial scale and turn it into clean-burning fuel.

San Antonio residents produce about 140,000 tons a year of a substance gently referred to as "biosolids," which can be reprocessed into natural gas, said Steve Clouse, chief operating officer of the city's water system.

Outstanding! I am very happy to see the city taking advantage of this untapped "source" of energy! It is initiatives like these and the ones T. Boone Pickens is advocating that will reduce our dependency on foreign energy sources! Why there isn't more harnessing of solar, wind and hydro power in this country is beyond me!

Cheers! M2

Default bio

GREAT! Thank you for posting this.
I was at the board meeting at SAWS yesterday when several progressive items were approved. It is exciting to witness our city continuing to grow in positive directions for our future. We can be proud.
San Antonio continues to establish a sustainable infrastructure.

Some of the "biosolids" are already being turned into the compost that is sold by GardenVille. How clever of SAWS to find a second revenue stream from them.

That is the happiest, funniest comment I've read on CD.
Thank you for my first bonafide LOL
Some CDer's think their BTU's don't stink, I hope we can still produce methane!
