I have a friend moving to town that is interested in shortwave/ham radio as a hobby. Not my area of expertise, but I know enough that Radio Shack is not what he needs. Anyone know of a source for this kind of radio and supplies etc? Specifically someplace to purchase a higher end portable shortwave receiver.

KCOMM never seemed to have what I was looking for, so I go to Austin Amateur Radio Supply (in Austin, of course) when I want to get my hands on something. But mainly I just order online from places like Ham Radio Outlet.

I live in Texas and I have been very pleased with Giga-Parts in Alabama. Mostly free shipping and great attitude over the phone.
