Any ideas of the most convenient way to dispose of some large items? i.e. non-working lawn mower, old gas grill (w/out the tank of course). Situation - we don't have a truck to take them anywhere. Have already contacted our trash service and they will not pick up.

Thanks!

Put them on the curb. Someone will probably take them.

Have you tried the 'free" section on Craigslist? or Freecycle.org? It's crazy what people offer or want on Freecycle and it's gone in a flash! Be sure to post that items must be picked up. The things you mentioned would be highly desirable!

Good luck!!!

Not sure where you live, but I say set them out on the curb first too. Even out where we live, thing disappear fast. There is an old junk man that drives around. it's worth a try.

You need Tiger . They just took an old grill I had set out. I was hopeing the junk man would get to it first.

There is a house in my subdivision on the main street that everyone drives down that routinely has junk on the lawn. They even have a "FREE JUNK" sign posted in the yard. It's usually stuff like the OP mentioned..and it's always gone by the time I drive by again.

Is there not a set day each month where large items are picked up?

The city of San Antonio has lage trash pickup twice a year. These days just about anything made of metal will be gone soon if left by the curb. The price being paid for scrap metal is at an all time high.

I put in a new water heater in a house. I took the old one and put it on the curb, It weighed a ton or two. It was full of lime. It took 2 of us to roll it to the curb. I went back into the house to get the small parts and put them with it. When I came back...3 minutes or less....the water heater was gone!!!!!!! I put the small metal parts in the recycle.
We never laughed so hard. Put anything on the curb and it's gone!!!

Well guys...thanks for the ideas!! Too funny....an old water heater gone in 3 minutes. Ok, I'll give it a try... Honestly, somebody really handy could probably take the stuff and make it work - we just aren't very handy! DH HATES handyman type of work! LOL. So...tomorrow, I'm putting the grill and mower on the curb....stay tuned, I'll let you know what happens!
