For those that are interested in the Conservation Society here, there is very comprehensive book (at almost any local store) called "Saving San Antonio". It's pretty thick and has lots of history and stories about their efforts to restore this city. The proceeds help support the organization. You can even submit an application to join. They screen applicants because they want to be sure their volunteers are serious about conservation. They will assign a "mentor" of sorts to help integrate you into the program. There are a lot of ways to volunteer. Their office is in one of the old homes in King William and they allow the public to come and research there. It's a great place to get to know the bones that built this city.
