I was going to go without the kids and hang out in the tavern but then I remembered it takes me much longer to get over hangovers now that I'm older. So now I'm thinking of going Thanksgiving weekend, which is their Celtic Christmas theme weekend, and taking the kids. Anyone else plan to go?

We went last year, and will probably view it from this day forward as a "been there, done that" event. It was fun, but not fun enough to visit every year. I suppose if you really get into the costumes and the whole atmosphere, it could be a ton of fun. There just wasn't enough to keep me interested. I hear that most of the fun takes place after dark, in the campsites, so that may explain it.

That said, I bet your kids would love it with the Christmas theme.

Texas Renaissance Festival 2008

It's over northwest of Houston, near Plantersville. Very pretty area!

I'm one of those nerds who try to go every year. It's okay with "kids", BUT more fun without. I haven't reached "chainmail" wearing status, though. I want to tell a lot of those women that it (really!) isn't that flattering unless you are toned and a size 0!

If they're the kind of women you have to tell, they're the kind of women that don't really care. Just my experience, anyway. Let 'em have fun! What happens at Renfest, stays at Renfest.

Well, sorry about that remark about the chainmail. Might have been a bit too harsh! I just don't like chainmail on ANYONE! But, that's the fun of renfest. Everyone letting loose.
