Not to mention picture quality. To me, it just looks much more better than TWC. Maybe it's my TV but everywhere I go that has TWC, they pale in comparison.

I've been with DirecTV for 5+ years, but my monthly price for the same programming package has increased 29.5% since then! The programming package I have is now "grandfathered" (but the price isn't), so if I change it, I can't ever get it back. Nevertheless, I still think it's a better deal than TW.

I remember I had to commit to one year of service when I signed up, with penalty for early cancellation. That was in exchange for the subsidized equipment cost. At that time, the customer actually owned the hardware outright. I still have that original setup.

I think the satellite providers have adapted their business model to be more like Cable, where they provide the equipment & installation for little or no up-front cost. Satellite still requires an initial commitment (usually 2 years), and you may have to return your receiver(s) if you cancel. The monthly price is subject to increase during the commitment period.

Wait, so the price lock thing requires a contract like a mobile does? Craziness...

the price lock is more for people that know they aren't going to change. I've been with TWC SA since 2001 and have had TWC service since the early 90's, so I'm obviously not going anywhere. I use the price lock to get a good rate (most channels + digital phone anywhere + RR Turbo with 5 boxes (one is a DVR) for $175/month). This may seem steep, but nobody else can beat it and they also can't come close to the RR Turbo speed.
As far as the contract, it's prorated, so it's not like the cell phone companies. They all suck as far as I'm concerned.

Amen, and Ive had them all too. TWC, except for the bs right now about KSAT, not ABC, just local KSAT, yes they are the local broadcaster for ABC, but they will probably find another satellite to get the link from if KSAT doesnt want to give it to them. Just local politics with TWC and KSAT it will be cleared up before they take it off the air Just media hype most likely. Its being pushed more by the outsiders than by the insiders. If it did happen, then I believe we could, if we wanted have a breach of contract on TWC's part that they weren't providing the basic programming promised, then we have a "Material Misrepresentation"

Declaration or clearly communicated intention by a party to a voidable contract that it is exercising its right to terminate (rescind) the contract. It is an irrevocable step that frees the other party as well from its contractual obligations, as if the contract never existed. Rescission may be on mutual consent, by an act of law, or by either party for reasonable cause such as a material misrepresentation.

I can not help but wonder if KSAT will find this a painfully WRONG choice. They can not charge for advertising except based on their viewership, and that is where the money is made in radio/tv...advertising.

Should this fall flat on its face, the problems for us, the viewers will be minimal...but if they succeed at this, you can expect the other channels to follow suit.

Can't help but wonder HOW and WHAT is driving this risk in todays market??? Is it happened/happening in other areas of the country??? Could care less about KSAT...but REQUIRE my Desperate Housewives!!! It is the ONLY series that I watch on TV at all!
