I take my daughter to Dr. Ochoa, and have never had any problems. Some parents find anything to complain about. They did say it would take an hour to take affect. I guarantee any place this parent goes to, they're going to complain about the wait. I mean you're at a doctor's office, this isn't fast food.

I realize it's been a few years since the OP started this thread but Dr. Taylor with Pediatric Dentistry off of Grisson and Bandera is amazing. For those kids who have never been to the dentist or who are frightened they have a video/dvd you can pick up prior to their appointment so your child can see step by step what the dentist is going to do.

Stone Oak Pedo (Dr. Susie and Dr. Courtney) are both great...very nurturing. Dr. Wiegand is brilliant. He's a pedodontist and an orthodontist and is really great with developmental issues. Some kids love Wiegand and some don't. I think he's a nice guy, but I'm a dentist, not a kid or parent.

Ben Taylor on Bandera road is great too.

Dr. Doose (210) 490-1133 is the absolute best off Thousand Oaks. When my son was 6 (he's now 14), he was at daycare and some kids knocked him into a window and knocked out one baby tooth (early) and loosed a permanent. One of the other mom's was picking up her son at the daycare who happend to be married to an adult dentist, Dr. Roach and she called him who recommended Doose. This was around 6pm by the time I made it from my office to the daycare.
Doose came in completely off hours to his office, turned everything on without even having pre-checked my insurance or having any assistants around he took calmly took x-rays of my son and had the most amazing bedside manner - everything was taken care of. (we had only moved to San Antonio within the last 6 months or so)
My daughter is now 4 and last year she did have a cavity. He checked her at 2 but I waited a year instead of 6 months so because of the location and depth, she actually needed a root canal. I admit I was nervous about that on a baby tooth and was skeptical but I did research and did learn it's not that unsual for what she had. They did a conscious sedation so she was awake during the procedure and his assistant and him were in the room with her the whole time with me. It was very relaxing and calming. The whole staff is very friendly and the waiting room is very nice. He's typically always on time. Maybe I shouldn't even tell you all about him really since I would hate for any of that to change, but that wouldn't be fair to Dr. Doose. He is closed on Fridays and you do have to schedule in advance as he is busy but that's pretty common with good docs/dentists and at least they don't overbook to death the way some places do.

Thanks so much for recommending Dr. Doose. Our 6 year old had a bad experience at her last appointment that left her very upset about going to the dentist. Dr. Doose and all the staff were totally understanding, patient and gentle with her. I had been dreading this almost as much as my daughter, but it turned out to be a wonderful experience and she is thrilled that we have a "nice dentist".

We take our son to Dr. Ralph Flores on Walzem. Although it's not the most desirable area of town, he's been great. I really like that he takes the children in by themselves (with a hygienist, of course) so that they don't have the parents there at the side freaking the kids out by being so nervous. I was leery of this practice at first but now our son doesn't mind going to the dentist at all and that started at the second visit!

Yes! Dr. Ben Taylor is very good, family has been going to him over ten years now.

Unhappy Don't Recommend Dr. Ochoa

I too don't recommend Dr. Ochoa's practice mainly because I too find the front office staff to be extremely rude, uncourteous, unconsidered, uncaring, uninterested, unfriendly, and unprofessional....all they care about is your ability to "pay in full up front" otherwise they will more than rudely gesture you towards the door. They are not flexible nor accommodating with payment options nor offer weekend appointments. The bottom line is that these issues are bad for the Dr.'s bottom line. I am one family opting to take my children else where because of this.

Come to find out it was dr. ochoa. so if you want to be waiting.for hours till she feels like getting to you, then go there. even her pretend concern for my daughter didnt make up for it.

My poor boy would hardly let them look at his teeth let alone clean them. They were unfortunately able to diagnose him with 2 cavaties! He is NO WAY going to let them do anything to his teeth and I don't want to freak him out anymore and give him a permanent phobia. Does anyone have a pediatric dentist that they can recommend? I would love to have one that is good with kids who are deathly afraid of the dentist. I don't mind driving either if it means him getting a good check up and not feeling THAT upset about going. I swear he was throwing himself into a panic attack today! Thanks for any help!
