If you have St. Augustine grass- fall & winter care ???? (landscaping, maintenance)

I know St. Augustine grass isn't the best for our drought prone area- but we have almost 1/2 acre of well established St. Augustine and I just don't see us changing any time soon. Our back yard gets partial sun while our front stays mostly shaded...
How often do you water your St. Augustine in the fall & winter months? My husband loves to mow (he's odd, I know!) so we don't mind it growing. Of course, we'd like to keep our water bill & use down.
Any special fertilizers you like to use?
Anything else I should know about fall & winter care for our grass?

Definitely fertilize any variety of grass in the fall if you want to improve your lawn. I use Texas Tee on mine. If it needs significant improvement, add a layer of compost. Otherwise, just sit back and enjoy the fact that you won't have to mow it for a few months.

I use JT Landscaping Co at 679-6832 . He does our yard every other week, and for fall he uses a high potassium winterizer fertilizer and aerate the lawn for you. Does a great job...very reasonable if you are looking to have it done.

I really like the fact he WATCHES your trees and ward for any issues...that way you know about them BEFORE they become big problems...and it is much easier to nip things in the bud than try to eleminate once they have taken hold. He knows his yard stuff...he is a Texas A&M Soil and Crop Specialist and has over 18 yrs experience in commercial, residential and sports maintenance.

All I know is he keeps our yard PERFECT and we are thrilled!!!

Definitely fertilize in the fall and spring, or have someone else do it. If you don't get down something very soon, you'll be hating life in the spring when you're pulling weeds all day. I didn't do it one fall and it took me hours to pull all the weeds and it made my yard look awful.
