Harold's Stores Files Bankruptcy | WOAI.COM: San Antonio News

I've seen this store at The Quarry, but never gone inside.

Looks like a lot of other people didn't either.

That's so sad - they had some super, super cute clothes. At the risk of sounding stereotype-y, they were the sort of clothes that were very popular when you were going to Rush Week at SMU or UT - preppy and feminine with a lot of candy or pastel colors.

Eleanor....I agree....they do have really nice merchandise but truly expensive, and yes, preppy. I like preppy...but I like casual and fun and trendy and tacky. (Light on the tacky! ) Think they needed to just diversify some. They have been an institution for a long time in AH. Their really awesome store is in Houston.....maybe other places too. {sigh}

Yep, the Harold Powell in Houston was an excellent store.

I used to buy a ton of stuff there because I too hear the siren call of argyle and cotton candy pink, but since I'm in law school and have a clerking gig, I have had to spend most of my clothing budget on classic-but-boring items like navy skirt-suits and sensible pumps. Meh. It's more Ann Taylor/Ellen Tracy, less Harold's/Grove Hill for me.

This is VERY sad... they've always carried the classiest, nicest quality clothing. Harold's was originally founded in Norman, OK on Campus Corner at OU (thus the college super prep style) and has been a fixture there forever (I remember drooling over Harold's clothes in the early 80s). I thought I had heard the original "Harold's" had sold the name/small franchise a number of years ago, but regardless, it makes me sad.
