I recently received a $25 charge on my account for a returned online payment caused by allegedly typing the checking account number wrong when I paid my bill on CPS's website. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

No, but I would call them and dispute. Especially if your payment history is good.

You would think that would work, but...

Ask for a supervisor. I mean, technically, if you did key in the wrong checking account number, yes the payment would not go through. However, by checking your payment history and seeing that you made an honest mistake (if you did, that is) then they should remove that $25 charge.

Or call troubleshooters. LOL j/k

do you have a copy of the online payment page? I learned to save a screen shot. Way back when I did a payment to our insurance... turned out the account which they transposed the account number to was not an active account, and tried to deduct the entire years poicy. So they claimed it was NSF, I found out the rules are to double check the account against the customer name before they do this. So unless the rules have changed or the problem was between keyboard & chair, you do have a leg to stand on. And, this duty falls on the company processing the e-debt. Issues can also be caused by the people or equipment processing the payments. They are few and far between but I have seen it happen a couple of times.

the account was already set up, so it was simply a click and pay. It's one of those things that is just so retarded you can't believe you're actually hearing the words they're spewing..

Funny you should ask. The exact same thing happened to me two months ago. After several days of not seeing the amount taken from my checking account, I sent them an e-mail asking them if something was wrong. No answer two days later, so I called them. They said that my bank didn't honor the bill and then they looked and saw that the 6th number was wrong on the account number. I then asked if they would waive the $25 fee as this was a simple error and I've ALWAYS paid my bills on time for the last 18 years. They said NO and that I would have to pay the bill by cash or credit card in person at one of their sub-stations. After driving to General McMullen area and paying the "adjusted" amount with $25 fee added, I promptly stopped the paperless option. Now they can mail me the bill and I'll write one of those old fashioned checks.

Just set CPS up on billpay thru your checking account. We never write them a check, Compass Bank does.

*we pay a flat rate every month.......we have our own budget plan set up. We usually get to skip a month here and there since they owe us.
