A lot of what you will want to know as someone moving to San Antonio can be found in this sticky thread.

What kind of work does the "male" do? Folks in this forum can be counted on to come up with places to work for most professions.

It's a little unusual to pick a destination before having a job lined up. Care to tell us what is bringing you to San Antonio? Members might be able to recommend neighborhoods that are close to whatever is bringing you here.

If you do move here, please bring some of that Irish green with you. We seriously need it around here.

Default Relocating from Northern Ireland to San Antonia... Any advise?

hi there.

we currently live in Northern Ireland (part of UK) and seriously considering moving/relocating to San Antonio. My wife is a registered nurse, i have worked in construction manufacturing sales for several years. We have 4 kids (all under4). Visas not an issue as my wife would study/work.

any advise....
where would a young family live etc....
where would you advise me looking for a job - as above been in sales/customer service for a few years.

sure any advise would be great.
thanks johnny G

From what you wrote about what she would be doing I can guess which areas of town she would be around, but yours is a bit more difficult since those kinds of jobs I think are located all around. As an RN going to school and work, she would probably be around the Medical Center area most often. Luckily it's a decent area for people with kids, and the highway it's located near (I-10) has the least traffic of all of the ones I've traveled in San Antonio.

With 4 kids that age, they would probably be bouncing off the walls in an apartment. Rental houses are easy to come by though. As far as where, I'd say the area bounded by Babcock Rd on the southwest, De Zavala Rd on the northwest, Callaghan Rd on the southeast, and Blanco Road and NW Military Drive on the northwest would be a good choice. There is a wide selection of housing to choose from, it's a safe area, and should be convenient to the Medical Center and a convenient route to downtown if that's where you wind up working. There are a lot of places to go out to around there and it feels like a younger part of town than others I've travelled to (my fiance and I are both in our 20s and live near Huebner and Bitters Rd).

If there is any way possible, I would take a holiday/trip here before moving. This would give you a much better feel for the area.
