I have a question. I work in the Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills, Monte Vista area and I was just wondering if there were any good places to meet someone outside just to talk. Say, an old friend from a long time ago or something along those lines (no need to go into detail there! ). I know there's the McNay and that's really pretty outside and Brackenridge Park by the Witte/Koi Kawa, etc but I'm at a total loss as far as any others. I don't get out as much as I'd like to anymore - I work too much now .

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated though. . even someplace down Broadway towards downtown would be ok. I just can't think right now!

Thanks!

the botanical gardens is nice but they charge to get in --- the mcnay would be a good option, as you mentioned, since it's free and they have some really nice areas to sit ---

if you want to do this over a drink or lunch, to distract a little from any awkwardness, should there be any, since it sounds like you haven't seen this person in a while, you could meet at Good Time Charlie's, they have a few outdoor tables...there is also a nice little cafe that has outdoor seating by the Pearl Brewery ... it is connected to the Aveda Institute, it's an organic cafe and there is always people there and the Aveda students have told me that the food is great...

good luck!!!

San Pedro Springs Park

I don't know if the Perl Brewery is far along enough for that, but the plans show that it would be good for that kind of thing.

Even Alamo Plaza isn't very hard to get to if you just cruse down Broadway.

It is!

Not sure if you want to go a little more casual...but the Starbucks at the Quarry and on Broadway 5000 blk...have outdoor seating...small for just a quick visit.

Tong's Thai on Austin Hwy has a great outdoor patio....fans and cool air misters (not needed right now of course!)...

And the WHOLE river walk has restaurants and just great bench seating if you just want to visit. TONs of places to stop. (I know a little further from your area...)

And even further is Chris Madrids! Super casual and fun for a beer or coke etc....with lots of outdoor seating.

If it were me, I'd like to be where there are some people...but not too busy....and not too crammed where you can't have a good convo without eavesdroppers! And I like to be able to have a glass of iced tea and just visit. Even indoors with a great view would be nice.

La Fonda on Main would be a great place for a visit....some chips and something cold to drink.

Oh..just remembered those places along St. Marys....Tycoon Flats...does it still have outdoor seating. And several places along there....can't think when I'm rushing!

Trinity has a beautifully landscaped campus with lots of areas to sit. Some particularly pleasant areas are the "Magic Stones" area in front of the library, and the esplanade behind the Coates University Center, which has a view of downtown and a very nice Henry Moore piece.

My absolute, top, favorite place on campus, though, is the meditation garden attached to the Parker Chapel. You can enter either through the chapel, or from the outside. This is a map of campus if you're interested.

Dig....just posted in another thread and remembered Los Patios and Crumpets which are closer to your area.

Also forgot about EZ's in the Quarry, but it's so close to traffic.

Cappycino's on Broadway would really be close and it's great after the lunch crowd or early evening outside!

Anything catching your interest yet?
