That's not that hard of a reach to understand. Obviously our city's finest have better things to do than stake out sleazy motels and wait for something to happen. It's silly to suggest the police know what/when something goes on before it's arranged. ....back at cha!

If these "businesses" are truly converted to slum lords type apartments, then they won't be effected by the "hourly" ban.
Based on what I have heard in other cities, the police know if a particularly property "caters" to criminal activity as it gets a disproportionate amount of calls for drug, prostitution, assault, etc... If a property falls into that category, it seems that it would be a place to stakeout or research who is going and how often and with how many.

As for older properties that to advertise, ban the advertisement and "celebration" of that type of business so that it isn't so blatant to see.

As for the hotel owners not being worried as posted by other members, that is interesting. Either they did not know about the ban ahead of time or they chose to stay in the background, to not draw attention to themselves; I think it is the latter. My feeling now is that this will be a law on the books that will probably not be enforced in many cases. However, should there be a "problem" motel location which residents complain about or the police determine to be a significant issue, now they will have something in law try and close that business.

Ban on "Rooms by the Hour"
Solution is "No rooms for Couples"
Couples want rooms, must get separate rooms.
No like it? Go somewhere else!

My guess is that some hotel/motel owners will sue and this ban will be overturned as an unwarranted and unnecessary government intrusion into a completely legitimate business.

I think prostitution should be allowed in the format of brothels or escorts, like other controlled substances. It us not illegal to buy/sell guns, alcohol, pharmaceuticals, etc. with licensed vendors in a place of business, but just anyone selling and buying guns, alchohol, or pharamcueticals in he streets and eapecially without a license will be prosecuted.

Make prostitution legal, but and clean up the streets. Legalizing it will help a lot in encouraging johns to seek safer venues, licensed and frequently STD tested providers. And whenever anything becomes legal more providers show up which drops the cost. And the government gets tax revenue and licensing fees to fund prosecution o street walkers, street johns, and anyone in any setting with a non-licensed hooker. Everyone wins, the vendors, buyers, governtment and the public.

I've never had the, uh, pleasure of renting a room by the hour but I could probably come up with a handful of scenarios not involving drugs, prostitution or other illegal activities that it could make sense to rent a room by an hour or two or less than 12. But if a business owner can make a business case for selling rooms by the hour and not a full day, why should he not be able to?

I am reminded of the Fark adage, "Having solved world hunger, city seeks to halt prostitution." And add in Bikini Car Washes while you are at it.

Do we not have more pressing issues (my favorite; taggers) that can be on the agenda ahead of this? I'm not suggesting the city legalize prostitution, I'm just saying that of all the matters our leaders could worry about, this (and the bikini car wash) seem pretty low on the scale of importance.

Just my two cents.
Cooling down issues.
Studying in quiet.
Borrow the swimming pool.
AC while the AC is out at your home.
Tired after a drive, need a quick nap!
