Or maybe we're just used to it? Kinda like when I was on the carrier and would totally not even realize a landing cycle was happening (when the jets and other stuff would land after flight ops). For newbies, it was a racket like no other. But for us that had been there for a while, we just tuned it out I guess!

Gosh...this whole thread reminds me of the flash of light in the NW sky that some of us saw a month or so ago....and most of us didn't!

that is true also. I have been on two carriers, but was never a regular on the flight deck. I went up there several times, but being on deck during flight ops is pretty freaking dangerous and there's just too many opportunities to die. I can't imagine every getting used to that, but I know quite a few people do.

That's what they want you think....

I worked over there for 8+ years, even in and around that area and the rest of Medina. Can't recall any explosions, other than transformers and diesel generators.

Well, this brings back memories from the old days (1979-1982). The Air Force used to move highly explosive (some said nukes) devices from Kelly AFB to Medina Annex for storage. They would assign Airmen to stand along the road all the way from Kelly AFB to Medina Annex.

yeah, nothing like drawing attention to things. When I was on the USS America in the 80's they had this ginormous police escort for the truck carrying the "special weapons". Of course nobody was allowed to say that, but how many trucks have at least 30 police escorting them? the most stupid part was we had to walk sideways with our back to the ship while walking along the pier.

I use to be the evening shift security supervisor at the NSA area on Medina Base from 1975-77 and I still can't tell you what was stored in the igloos out there. It was some neat stuff though. The explosions are an on-going thing. EOD getting rid of some out-dated munitions is usually the cause....not training.
