Hmm....sounds to me like someone is tired of being called a Yankee. I agree that it is silly, and in most cases I would imagine annoying, but I disagree with the theory that those who use the name calling are living in the past, or that they are idiots...

I think that there are PLENTY of northerners out there who fit the bill of Yankee, or who are alternately super annoying to us southerners, and portray that steriotype of the slander "Yankee". You know the city folk type, rude, talking too loud on the cell phone like they are of importance in a resturant (I had the privlidge of having to listen to one of these grease balls with the New Jersey accent to follow yesterday at Alamo Cafe), liberaly extrovertive, and just general pain in the arse sissy excuses of so called men. There are many northerners that are great, and the majority in all actuality, but there deffinately are "Yankees".

As for the southern names, never really heard much of the word "Rebel" being tossed about down here. I imagine because it's not really that offensive, actually pretty darn cool! You can call me that from now on.

Actually, when I lived in FL, we had a good mix of southern- and northern- born people. Everyone got along, and there was little racism.

Then I moved up to MA, and heard racial slurs that I never knew existed! It was done covertly when people thought that they were in like company. I'm 1/2 Hispanic, but take after my dad's side of the family. The southern families I knew would have smacked their kids for talking the way the MA people did!

And I also got a lot of wise-guy comments about being a southerner. People would talk in a southern drawl and make redneck comments. Very annoying and shocking from a group of people who are supposed to be into celebrating diversity!

Hi,

A little late to the game here. But I think you guys will be just fine - I moved from FL - Tampa to be exact a little more than 1 year ago and we are thoroughly enjoying it - One thing I miss a lot is those afternoon thunderstorms that FL is so notorious for having, however outside of that has been more in getting to know the general area, figure out the loops, specially the wife which had a heck of a time trying to get adjusted trying to get around, but in about a years time she's a pro with a little help from google maps, and a tom-tom, which you are more than welcome to have since she doesn't use it.

You guys will be good - Im a Yankee via the ways of Puerto Rico, but the only comments towards Yankees I received are my co-workers and the support for the baseball team.

Best of luck.

The only thing you need to avoid is coming into town and complaining about the way things are. Well, in Mass, we did this.... Why don't they do that here?

There's talk about the Californication of Denver...the way Californians flooded the area fleeing the high taxes, crowded roads, and high costs of living in California, only to send the price of real estate soaring in Denver, clogging up the interstates, and voting in more Democrats to raise taxes. The mind wanders and wonders...

Just come in with a smile and a good attitude, and that's all people really expect.

That's what I thought...until I realized they were all winter Texans. they'll be heading back out soon. We call them "Q Tips" because when you line them all up, they look like a bunch of standing Q Tips. One more month and the brunt of the traffic will be gone.
