We moved from SoCal in July 2006, and have learned to adjust to things here in SA. It is completely different then LA, in both a good and bad way. Anyhow, to get back to the original thread, when we were doing research on schools, housing, places to live in SA, the one area that kept coming up was the Stone Oak area. Now that we are there, I think that something along the lines of Timberwood Park would have suited us better. Most ppl from Cali are probably finding out about Stone Oak the same way.

Wow, a pretty accurate assessment. We had our hearts set on Stone Oak because of Bush middle and Reagan high. However, I was told my daughter would not be able to go to Bush so I ended up buying right across from Timberwood Park.

We were fortunate, and our kids will be going to Bush and Reagan. Even so, we are considering Timberwood Park, if we decide to stay in SA.

When we came looking for a house I took one look at Stone Oak and all I could see was Scripps Ranch. There was no way my dh wanted to live there (he's from Mission Hills, old skool SD) and after working 6 years in the golden triangle I didn't want any of that traffic. There are very nice places there but there are so many other choices with great schools too.

A little story for those worried about moving to Stone Oak area and NOT being able send their kids to Bush/Reagan. Several years ago, Churchill was THE high school to go to in the area. When Reagan High was being built, the parents in Stone Oak were informed that their kids would no longer be allowed to attend Churchill and would have to go to Reagan. Well, this did not go over too well and many parents went ballistic! They did not want their kids going to the newer school and even prompted some people to move outta Stone Oak and into the Churchill school district. Turns out Reagan is now THE high school in the area and people are clamoring to move to Stone Oak in effort to get their kids into Reagan prior to it reaching capacity.

With Reagan full, there are now new high schools being constructed in the area. I'm willing to bet we will see the exact same situation as we did with Churchill several years ago. People are going to pitch a fit about their kids having to go to the "new" school when in fact, these new high schools will become THE schools to go to.

I'm not going through all the hoopla and red tape - which BTW is WORSE in Texas than it is in CA to get a new license and new plates for your car. Especially now that I've decided that I absolutely do not want to be here.

Twinkle Toes, you are absolutely making the right decision. I'm envious, but can't afford CA!! Good for you.
