There is a place called Jerry's Hot Dogs on Commerce street downtown that is supposed to be good. I have never been but it has received great reviews.

Freddy's Frozen Custard has some great ones and the fluorescent green relish is something you have to see to fully appreciate. It's served on toast instead of a bun, though. The dogs themselves are Vienna Beef and you can even get sport peppers, although I'm not a fan of them.

rd, I though you were a chow hound....I've been to Freddys and to me it's a trip a month stop (maybe more). I rate their dogs below average.

One day I was having a taste for a Chicago-style hot dog and so I typed it in my GPS and it took me to some run-down house in a neighborhood near Tezel Rd with these skinny little men playing basketball. I think it was called POP'S CHICAGO STYLE HOTDOGS. Anyways, I got the h*ll out of there...that was not the hot dog I was looking for...so...glad to see other choices here.

I love Freddy's hotdogs (and onion ringers, burgers, and of course the frozen custard). I haven't tried the chicken or chili, but I'm thinking I would probably enjoy them too. and they are real Vienna Beef dogs, which is about as Chicago as you can get, isn't it? They just don't come on the poppy seed roll and I would personally rather have the toast. If the location wasn't so sucky, I would probably go there more often. So far I've only been to the Potranco location once and the traffic was all the suck I expected it to be at around 5:30-6:00 PM

I'm going to Chicago during spring break.........want me to pick you up one? They probably don't travel well, though.

Someone already mentioned Nick's:
