Has anyone ventured out looking for Wildflowers? I haven't been out toward the hill country in weeks and wondered if they wildflowers have taken off yet.
I've seen some patches of Bluebonnets here and there....and with the recent rains, they should be really happy and bountiful this Spring!

Any reports?

BTW - Anyone new to Texas and SA....it is actually against the law to pick Bluebonnets! I'm not kidding.....not even one! The wildflowers are also protected and roadside mowers are not allowed to mow any wildflower fields or patches until they are past their bloom.

It IS ok to stop and park (safely) to take photos with all the Bluebonnets and wildflowers.

SA and South Texas will be putting on a Spring show for the next couple of months!! Great time for weekend trips out in the country!

While it's not illegal to pick them, it is frowned upon, especially by me

NO way!!! LOL! I loved that quote "it may be bad karma, but it's not illegal." I think I know that state trooper that says it is!

I had heard it was illegal to "Kill a Mockingbird" (state bird)....and I've met a few that have tempted me! (very annoying birds....although beautiful and very protective of their nest's and young) Now I'm wondering...could I get away with it? !!! (just kidding!)

Thanks for that link....great info!

Isn't that crazy? I'm telling you, I thought the same thing growing up. I picked a bunch of Indian Paintbrush for my mom when I was about 9, and when I brought them into the house, everyone in the room told me it was illegal! I was mortified....

I have always found the best bluebonnets in the hill country to be out around the second week of April. Inks Lake State Park is one of the best places to see them.

Heh, I saw those also while driving home today..had to park at BK & hike down the hill to perch among them a bit. Don't worry, no black & white's saw me.

The paintbrushes are taking their sweet time popping up, but the butter-n-eggs, blackeyed susans, scottish thistle, buttercups and lantana are making up for it.
