Yea, i'm not too interested in Tex-Mex places for their 'ritas either. I'm having trouble finding good establishments that aren't a stone's throw away from being fast food.

I actually liked Rio Mambo (although it was more Dallas Tex-Mex than SA Tex-Mex), but my all-time favorite is El Mirasol on Blanco near Bitters http://www.sasmexicanfood.com/. Outstanding food, and a nice atmosphere too.

I used to live right near there and that place on Blanco was always packed. I finally tried it and thought it was just ok. Lot's of people rave about that place. Just goes to show that food taste are extremely personal.

Yes, I think that's it. Great food - I might have to go there this weekend in fact.

Aha! Well that explains the sharp divide in opinion, I guess. I didn't even know there was a difference between the Dallas and SA styles. Guess I haven't lived in Texas long enough. I'll learn...

Thanks, will look into El Mirasol

Yes, the manager of Rio Mambo helped launch Mi Cocina in the Dallas/Plano areas.

I liked the fact that Rio had the steamed veggies option, the food was tasty and fresh.

However, the service was spotty and typically rotten. That is why the last 2 times we went there we sat at the bar instead of at a table.

If the service had been more on point as it was when they first opened we would have gone there more often - but we dropped off...

My absolute, all-time favorite Tex-Mex places are El Mirador on N St Mary's, and Taco Taco Cafe and Rolando's, both on Hildebrandt.

A place that has good food and a drop-dead building is Paloma Blanca on Broadway. It has a beautiful dining room and bar, plus a patio with a water feature.
