I live downtown, and I love downtown SA, but, I just finished a graduate degree and can't find a job anywhere near downtown. Not having much luck on the north side either, just wasting time and fuel.

Library and Information Science, but I'm more than willing to take an admin asst job at this point. I've applied with several temp agencies but either they are swamped, or recruiters with a HS diploma don't recognize the value of a graduate degree. I'm just befuddled. Not to mention broke!

Times are tough and don't hate on the recruiter with the HS diploma (as opposed to your graduate degree). He/she has a job! Besides, EMPLOYERS determine what educational level they need, not the temp agencies.

From what I'm reading/hearing, a higher education degree is hardly worth the paper it's printed on these days. Do you have any idea how many unemployed educated people are looking for work? You would've done better learning a trade. Unfortunately, too many people look down on blue collar work.

. You're most likely going to have to commute no matter what you do, whether you're a laborer who hangs out at Guadalupe Lumber or an executive in Downtown. When I was looking for a job this last go around I traveled as close as 4 miles to as far as 75ish miles (Austin). It's up to you how badly you want a job. I understand the frustration with finding a job.

I ended up finding a new job in my own desk by moving to my sister organization, which is just a product of the times. Networking, networking, networking.

It's super cliche at this point in time, do you use facebook, LinkedIn, twitter, etc. for non-personal reasons? They're amazing professional tools if used correctly.

Moderator cut: orphaned

Ashbeegh, Good advice. I do belong to several lists, but should look at social networking sites. Thanks!

I think that would be pity, but in hopes of actually being helpful, try Trinity U library. University is super employer.

No need for the sarcasm. Reality is what it is. I'm not telling you anything new. I just hate seeing someone throwing a pity party, that's all.
