This isn't surprising at all considering rumors that surfaced over a year ago. I bet $20 they locate outside 410... $10 it's outside 1604.

If you're into symbolism, a move by Whataburger into AT&T's former downtown headquarters building would likely be viewed positively by local folks.

AT&T is still leasing that building and will for the foreseeable future. Though there is other downtown properties they own.

Speaking of Whataburger vs. AT&T, I thought today's Express-News article (http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/An_icon_of_Corpus_heading_for_SA.html - broken link) contained a wonderfully ironic reason that Whataburger chose to move to SA.

Quote:
San Antonio's proximity to the states Whataburger serves and the city's airport played a role in the company's decision.

“San Antonio is a very centrally located city to those states and we felt like it would be a good place for us to travel in and out of,”
Having the Whataburger official express that notion publicly after AT&T's CEO disparaged the airport was probably a scripted move by the Chamber of Commerce or the mayor, but I thought it was a nice touch.

Gaining a regional QSR chain still doesn't make up for losing the largest global telecommunications company . At least in the end AT&T and Whataburger are still based in Texas .
