We've lived here for 4 years and our biggest complaint is that there isn't much to do...or we haven't found it. What do people do? We've done the Riverwalk, Fredricksberg, Austin, Corpus, New Braunfels and even been out to Seguin. Shopped at La Cantera, Northstar and San Marcos. I see there are some State Parks around...which are the best? What are fun things to do in the city?

I like to: camp at Garner sp/ Guadalupe SP; shoot at a Place to shoot; deep sea fish out of Port A; boat at Canyon Lake, vacation in South Padre; float on the Guadalupe; play with my son at San Pedro/Brackenridge/OP Schnable park; hit the libraries; drink coffee and download apps; have a drink at the limelight; visit the Blue star complex; visit the botanical gardens; look at the paintings in the McNay; do Seaworld/Fiesta Texas at least two times a year; catch a show at the White Rabbit; take my son to the symphony; take him to a few Spurs/SilverStars games; watch college football at BJs, go to the Majestic for a play; and the rest of the time....I work.

Boredom is a relative term.

Excellent post, sa dave.

bacano, I recommend Guadalupe River State Park and if you want to drive a little but further, there is Blanco State Park and Pedernales Falls State Park (real good one for hiking).

I'm a nerd so I don't know how much help I can be but I usually like to keep myself busy with the following:
- attending theaters productions (from local one man shows to broadway budget shows)
- watching movies
- attending Meetup groups (book clubs and dog clubs)

There's also continuing education classes sometimes offered by the nearby school district that may pique your interest. The school district either mails the catalog or you can find it online. Prices are really reasonable and classes are usually evening or weekend hours. Anything from Intro Photography to Carpentry to Musical Instrument lessons.

Agreed on the state parks but there aren't many planned activities if that's what your looking for. Have you tried camping? It's a bunch of just chilling or what ever you want to do but it's great.

No reason to be bored, there's plenty to do!

Get the book Day Trips San Antonio (available at all local book stores, or online), or try this web site:

San Antonio Day Trips :: Official San Antonio Visitor Information: VisitSanAntonio.com

Or you can simply Google 'Day Trips San Antonio' and there's loads of online info on whats happening around SA.

Cheers! M2

bacano...I feel your pain.

It has been hard trying to keep entertained here. This city doesn't offer much variety, and once you've done it all what do you do? You gotta keep plenty of friends around, to break up the monotony here.

Good luck.

One of the most entertaining things I've done is to go the Riverwalk, sit on a balcony, and watch all the tourists and drunks......barrel of monkeys couldn't be funnier
