My mother-in-law may move to SA. We're looking for apartments for ACTIVE seniors. She does not need daily nursing care. In fact, if a nurse ever showed up at my MIL's door, I would say a Hail Mary for her. The nurse that is.

Any senior living apartment recommendations?

Thank you.

Can you provide a few more specifics?

What age range? And when you say 'senior living'...are you meaning a retirement community? or just a regular apartment complex where the community is predominantly 55+ ? Does she want a community with planned activities? Is she interested in buying? or just leasing? ...and what about pets?

(Been through this recently and 'senior' can cover a very large range of requirements, wants and/or preferences.)

There's the Wedgewood, which is on Blanco inside Loop 410 - Wedgwood Apartments, Independent Living with Assistance, San Antonio, Texas

I know someone whose mother and aunt live there, and are extremely happy. It is not the newest building, but it has a nice central location, and a lot of activities and services. She says that they have it arranged that the staff does their cleaning and laundry, but that's about it as otherwise they are very mobile, though they are older than your mother.

Which area of town are you looking at? I work in home health care marketing and have been to a lot of independent living apts in all price ranges and talked to a lot of residents. Medical Ctr area places go for about $900/mo with food, activities, incl. DM me if you'd like to know more.

I was going to recommend the Parks off Harry Wurzbach by Ft Sam. It's a beautiful facilities and residents must be 55 or over. However, these are apartments that are for sale (not sure if residents can lease them out....HOA may say otherwise)....also, no new pets allowed. The only remaining pets are those of residents who owned pets before they changed their policy. Not even a goldfish!

Los Patios is another retirement community in the NC/NE part of SA along 410.
It's a progressive community with a lot of activities and perks. Age range varies quite a bit. Apartments range from efficiencies to two bedrooms...with kitchens. Meals are optional....and many residents drive and have reserved parking. No residents are bedridden, unless they are in the assisted living area recovering from surgery etc. The grounds are beautiful and it sits on the high side of the Salado Creek.

I would not recommend the Forum in Lincoln Heights....it's more institutional and very high priced. (you pay for nursing home staff etc that is used elsewhere in the facility). Dollar for dollar...the sq ft price is outrageous compared to some other communities that are equally as nice.

The sisters of Incarnate Word also have a beautiful facility for seniors. There are several units depending on activity level and need.

Some of these places are mixed need....ie, independent senior living, to assisted living to nursing facilities.

There is also a fairly new community in Boerne that has more independent living and activities that are a bit more separate from more assisted living. Can't remember the name right off.

Mid sixties is still very young unless she has some health issues. Not sure if she would want to live in a mixed need facility at that age if she is active and outgoing.
