mysanantonio is reporting that L'Etoile has closed. This restaurant has been a favorite on the SA dinning scene since opening in 1985.

I'm as much to blame as anybody, as I have only gone 3 or 4 times in the last few years. The food was always very good, but the menu and space were certainly stuck in the 80's. The crowd was always much older. I can only speculate their refusal to "freshen" the menu and space lead to their demise.

The Grill in Leon Springs is owned by the same person. Excellent food!

Frankly, after the Powerhouse Cafe scandal some years back, I'm surprised it didn't close sooner. L'Etoile WAS stuck with a dated menu, sub-par service, a target market that was dying and better eateries opening around town.

While I don't like to see anyone out of the job in this economy, I do think the more talented people involved will land on their feet.

I'm glad I'm not the first to say it....
Granted, we only went once, but we had no desire to go back. It was awful or anything, just not very good. I didn't notice the service to be poor, the food was just blah. However we had high expectations....

Service was poor, poor, poor. Plus, for the price, I had no desire to see people in sweatpants. The dress code wasn't enforced - if they had one.
