It seems that nearly every type of food comes in a taco version out here, yet you ask most people where to go to get good fish tacos and they look at you like you've just asked them for the most disgusting thing ever. I miss the fish tacos from SoCal like crazy!! They were always on soft corn tortillas, with plenty of finely shredded cabbage, cilantro, diced onions, limes to squeeze on top of, and every place seemed to have their own special sauce recipe. (mmmmmmm........!)

Recommendations????

I know they are around somewhere, but I'm sure I have a mental block about where I've seen them! I'm not a fan of even "chicken" enchiladas.....so fish tacos just are not in my search engine!

Fish tacos are the truth. As a born and rasied San Antonian, I would take a good Rubio's fish taco over a puffy taco any day. Heresy? Perhaps - but they are a quickly acquired taste.

I seriously doubt that they would ever catch on in San Antonio - the greasy beef taco culture is far too ingrained. That is a shame - if you can support Fred's fish fry, than a lightly friend fish taco should be a demogrpahic hit! But if you are ever visiting Las Vegas, swing by a Rubio's and give it a shot - it is damned good.

Rubios started in San Diego and really is Baja Mex. Their original store looks exactly the same as it did when they first opened it, I used to drive by every day dropping my daughter off at preschool. Fish tacos are Baja mex, you'll find it here about the same time you find the shredded beef every one's been looking for. I have yet to sit down at a mexican restaurant and not have someone sitting next to me ask their waiter of they have shredded beef. You'd think they'd get a clue. So if anyone's looking to open a franchise (Cliff) this one would be an excellent start:

Default Rubio's....

Mmmmmmmmmmmm....... Rubio's!!!!!! (Mouth is watering!!) Rubio's and Wahoo's!! Yum!! There's a great seafood place in HB called Zubee's (can't remember if that's the correct spelling, prob not) that has the most awesome fish tacos! A plate with two *huge* tacos and for under 5 bucks! Fabulous!! And Ron G - you're right! They are definately a quickly acquired taste! I really think they would go over well out here if somebody would just give it a shot!

And I know what you mean wCat, I know they're around somewhere, just can't remember where!
