That's a big ole dump of a city.
I am from Ft. Lauderdale. Travel frequently. The cheapest prices you will find are on Southwest. In addition to the lower fares, they do not charge a bag fee, and they seem to have less or shorter layovers than other airlines.

From SA airport you'll have Southwest, AirTran, Delta/Northwest, and Continental.

Air Tran is the next inexpensive airline.

Delta/Northwest, used them last time and never will again.

Continental, sometimes you can find a cheaper flight months in advance, but they have the newest planes and have nice fold down screens to watch movies.

Spirit used to have direct flights to Fl & MIA out of SA and I was getting round trip tickets for $140,too bad they stopped flying into SA.

If you plan your vacation a month or two in advance you're looking at $184-$225 round trip during the summer.

oh yeah, I forgot about the bag fees and they can make a huge difference in price. I flew easyJet from Paris to London and it was dirt cheap (17 Euro) if you didn't carry anything onboard the plane except yourself and maybe a camera bag or purse. They charged for all sorts of things and luckily we were just on a day trip returning later that evening.

I dont' think I'll have many bags...if any. Just going for a surprise birthday party...1-2 day thing, then head back to home sweet home.

I would definitely concentrate on the airlines that may give you a break for not having luggage then.

Maybe they'll let me sit in the cockpit like I did when I was 3. Maybe this time they'll let me do some loops and victory rolls.

That's all fine and good until they hit turbulence and you pull a Billy Mays. Then what?

I'm surprised these haven't been more common in the past two years. Always sad to see too
