Because they are giving away so many "free" ones right now....they have to come from somewhere.

Some good news on the dog, but still not sure if she is going to pull through. The good news is it wasn't renal failure, which was my biggest fear. However, it's canine diabetes and I waited too long. I could kick myself for not bringing her in sooner and now we have to hope they can get her little body back under control and it didn't do too much damage. It was good to not hear the words I was dreading most, though.
It is also extremely expensive. We'll be lucky to make it out with only spending about $600-700 and it could easily get to double that. Hopefully she pulls through, though, because I am responsible for it getting this bad. Never think that a pet losing weight is a good thing and get any changes checked out first. I just thought it was a miracle that she was finally losing weight and stopped the wheezing.

What was that about irresponsible pet owners? Just kidding,RD. Hope all turns out well. We travel way too much to have a pet in the house, but I can just imagine what the loss might be like. Good luck!

Wow....sorry, RD. I didn't even realize dogs could get diabetes. I hope she's on the path to better health today.

Trust me, I blame only myself for it. The good thing is that the survival rate is over 50%, but the average hospital stay is 6 days. I am hoping for a real miracle, but making plans for the more likely scenario. She is an unusual dog, though, so if anyone can do it, she can.
The part that really disturbs me is how her sister basically abandoned her. She was always taking care of her by keeping her clean and just always there like she had her back, but the past few days she has ignored her and really changed a lot. I don't know if she knew what was coming and just gave up or what. I don't like it, though.

RD - dont be too hard on yourself! You are a great pet owner and a great example for others. Just keep caring for your babies like you have been.
