And at one end sometime maybe in the eighties wasn't there a bar/dance place at the end where the cleaners are now? San Antonio Rose or something like that?

I know there was a club/dance place there, but I just can't remember the name. Guy I used to know was part owner.

That's right, CW themed like Dallas or Midnight Rodeo and a nice little meat market it was, too. I would stop there if I didn't feel like going all the way to the MR, or stop by on the way back home from the MR if the hunting there was poor. Not positive, but I think the name is correct, too.

Colonies North Mall...my Favorite GBNF in SA topic. GWhopper and I did extensive research on this and posted a lot of neat thing in the original GBNF in SA Thread. There are quite a few posts in this area..including an actual photo of The Legendary Colonies North Mall. I know I posted some old newpaper ads for Winn's

//www.city-data.com/forum/san-a...tonio-211.html

Some of the store in Colonies North Mall:
Handy Andy
Winns
Artique (framming shop)
Summers Drug
schlotzsky's
U.S Post Office (was in the middle under the stairs)
Colonies North Barber shop
Various night clubs - Images(teen club), San Antonio Rose. I remember there was a giant neon rainbow outside of it.
Pet store
A few other places if anyone can remember or has pics.

I can't remember, I barely remembered the pet store haha. That was always such a strange mall. The whole area is a little weird. They tore down the HEB that was next to the mall and moved it down to the corner. I guess the store was too small (by today's standards, anyhow). I was working at that HEB in January 1985 when we had the "big" snow and I ended up being stuck there for a day.

We had a projectionist at the Colonies North Theatre that got a job at the frame shop down the mall from the theatre. He would work both places at the same time! One day he started the show, sneaked down the back stairs to the mall, and went to work at the frame shop. When it was about time to change over reels, he went back up the back stairs into the projection room, and found the owner of the theatre standing there waiting for him! It seemed that soon after he left the machines, the carbon arc lamps lost the arc, and there was no light to project the picture on the screen for 40 minutes! The young man suddenly had only one job at Colonies North Mall!
