I can't even recall where it was..north of Oblate for sure, maybe near Rampart or Rector. Sorry to hear of the owner's wife passing. Thanks GW. I haven't been up that way much in recent years.

Absolutely Everything Catering. 3915 San Pedro Ave, near Olmos. Jerry Olivarri, Chef/Owner Extraordinaire. His Wife/Partner Diane passed away last year after a valiant battle with cancer.

Drove by the place today. The place is open daily for lunch, and are open late for BBQ steak dinner during on monday nights during football season.

Last time I saw him he had moved to Australia in the outback and was home visiting relatives. Crazy place the outback per him. No electricity- wind generator and utility house with batteries. No TV, no phone, and no gas station or grocery store for 100 miles. His nearest neighbor was 4 miles away but he loved it.
I dated a girl that worked at the Wet and Wild. Yeah, I was young and dumb back then but also single. She was neat eye candy but there was nothing in that round ball on top her shoulders. It didn't last long.

I think we need to take a poll and have Mud start his own website posting all of his pics. He certainly has more than any of the Texan Cultures or Library of Congress has on SA. If we could just tap into his brain with commentary too......
I also knew Jerry but it was after he got out of the Peppermint and had Rittiman Hardware, which I think is now owned or run by one of his boys and is now on Eisenhauer Rd. Lived across the street from him for several years. Hard guy to get to know, but once you do, great guy

My family was among the first to have cable in San Antonio in 1979. It was wierd explaining to friends at school all of the channels we could watch. I remember that at the time, HBO and Showtime (channels 14 and 16) were only on the air from 5:00PM to after the end of whatever was showing at Midnight.

As I recall, UA/Columbia ->Rogers -> Paragon -> Time Warner

Other cable companies included Mom & Pop operations like Family Cable, aka Friendship Cable which was a rural provider (think South Bexar/Northern Atascosa county area)

There was also a wireless provider, whom on occasion I still see setups on roofs.... usually identified by a 20-40 foot guyed rooftop mast and a microwave yagi antenna. I am pretty sure they went defunct long ago, but the outdoor installations remain. I don't remember the name of this provider though.

I, too, remember Bexar County Cable. Actually it was called Bexar County Cablevision, they started up in 1980. I think at my house back then, that and Paragon Cable were the first 2 real choices for cable, but Paragon came first I think. Anybody remember those old cable boxes then? They had that long row of numbers and plastic slider to select the channel you wanted to watch.

Back then you had to have an RF choke or filter to be able to see the premium channels. A set was mounted on the outside cable drop, the corresponding filter mounted on the back of the set-top converter. They looked like oversized CO2 cartridges.
