I wonder who got away with this sign...

Google Maps

A. Grona 1926 ...this building interests me. I recall ever seeing a working business in this building. It and the building just north of it have many signs reading A.Grona Mattress co.

Google Maps

I faintly recall something in this building but no clue as to what. Many, many, years ago.

Oh Bud the Alaniz garage wrecker service is probably someone I knew in my youth. The old "Lup-Mar" ice house on Pleasanton Rd just south of Stonewall and Milam garage. Was owned by the Alaniz's back in the 60's. Milam garage next to it lasted many years in a Quonset hut building. Puke green building was Lup-Mar and the blue building was Milam Garage.

At one time, back in the late 50's there was a piano company there. I don't know of anything else but there's been a bunch of different businesses there including a Mexican restaurant. No names- sorry.

Trapper are you speaking of the building at Lone Star & Roosevelt/St.Mary's?? I can't be sure of the 50's but I've never seen a restaurant in there. No where to park either. Unless entrance was from the east side along with parking. Maybe you mean the A. Grona building. Different link. That would certainly be a possibility.

Here's another interesting old building. I remember several different businesses in this area over the years. Don't recall what businesses though.

Hah ! I'm not. Good ole Mom (93 and still sharp as a tack) says the Flores address was for the towing business and the St. Mary's at Florida one was the garage and used car sales. As she said, "I picked you, your Dad, and all three of your brothers up at both places enough times to remember that."

You can fool all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can't fool Mom.

Great thanks Mud...1891 sheesh. Some of the painted signage is still in pretty fair shape on the buildings.

Back in the 50's - 60's there was a Singer Sewing Machine place and a place that sold rolls of Linoleum. They were in this area most likely where these empty lots are now.

Funny the things I remember and a shame the things I've forgotten. Of course the old steam engine locomotive sat in the little park across the street.
