I just got mine and got slapped with the highest property value increase I have gotten since I bought the home. $100K increase which is a suspicious number due to the property tax relief issued last year.

We’ve moved, but out of curiosity I checked our old home—-up $48,000.

Why would you be getting your appraisal this time of the year? They usually come out in October.

Tax bills go out in October. Proposed appraisals go out around April.

D'oh. That's right. I haven't gotten mine yet. I will be dreading it more now.

Valuations up 2.4% on average, BCAD says
This must be why they raised my value over $100K compared to last year. I bet it happened to others

Last year, the exemption for school taxes increased from $40,000 to $100,000. That means for a homestead appraised at $350,000, the school taxes would be based on $250,000.

I am pretty sure they are slowly but surely trying to tax us all out of our homes.

Just comparing mine with others in my immediate neighborhood, along with the homes of a few other family/relatives scattered thought San Antonio, I don't see any with an appraisal that increased less than 6.5%. Most increases seem to be in the 8-9% range, and my sister's increased over 18%!

My example, there are 14 houses on my street which all increased from 45% (highest) to 19% (lowest)

House #1: 45%
House #2: 21%
House #3: 24%
House #4: 23%
House #5: 33%
House #6: 22%
House #7: 21%
House #8: 21%
House #9: 31%
House #10: 20%
House #11: 19%
House #12: 19%
House #13: 23%
House #14: 31% (mine)

So yeah...that newspiece from ksat is pure BS.

Appraisal-District-Annual-Report - https://bcad.org/wp-content/uploads/...eport-2023.pdf

According to page 5, 6 and 7 of the Appraisal-District-Annual-Report released on December 1, 2023 for appraisal year 2023, the "Annual Budget" which I assume translates to property tax revenue collected increased from $20,238,268 in 2022 to $23,674,800 in 2023. This is a 17% annual budget increase from one year to the next.

On page 7, they compare Bexar to Tarrant (Ft Worth), Harris (Houston), Travis (Austin) and Dallas counties. They tout "The District has continuously performed at the lowest cost per real parcel of the top six metro districts in the State of Texas." which is true because property values are the lowest in SA of all the metros, but it also had the highest percent increase in "Annual Budget" from 2022 to 2023 which they conveniently don't show in the grid.

The second highest "Annual Budget" increase according to the report being Travis County at 12.7% and the rest all having a percent increase of less than 7%.
