Bottom line is that owners have to take responsibility for their dog's behavior. Victims should not be blamed and using the "dogs are just uncontrollable animals" line is a cop out. Dog attacks should not be looked at as Acts of God but instead should be examined to see how they could have been prevented and assigning blame where there is negligence.

Y'all happy now?
Maybe the health issue that led to her death was also the reason she neglected the dogs and child in the first place?

Perhaps Bowie..I don't think we'll ever know. Its a sad state of affairs for all concerned..perhaps they're all in a better place now as Mad already stated.

I don't believe anyone is "blaming the victim".

Well, I think the owner in this case paid the extreme price..she's dead. Maybe she was sick..maybe her heart was broken because she couldn't do anything to prevent her grandson's demise during the attack.

Maybe, they were like those dogs some folkes have brought up that wouldn't hurt a fly on anyones head. We don't know what caused the dogs to attack. Probably never will. I have friends that have all, at one time or another, have had the large aggressive breeds and all have lived their lives uneventfully. They knew what they had for dogs and never assumed. They knew that dogs are dogs and are subject to act on instinct. Not an excuse but a reason to do things like not leaving children un-attended even for a moment...because that is all it takes..a moment.

There are a bunch of people out that that shouldn't have pets..much less children.

I believe I hear you saying there are two sides to every story. I am in agreement there...

I am just saying don't judge unless you have ALL the facts.

That's why when I take walks in the neighborhood, I take my knife with me. Just in case some crazy pit attacks me or my children.

It's funny, b/c after reading through this entire thread, with all the reasonings, justifications, etc it really just seems like the message is animals are animals, therefore unpredictable. 15 pages just to say that?

Well, it's only 4 pages if your profile is set to view 40 posts per page. And yes, we go on and on about sillier things here, trust me.

ooooh! 40 posts per page?!? I didn't even know we could do that!!

That's okay--on the Houston forum, they're talking about how ugly the traffic lights are. It's gotten pretty lively!

LOL. Look at the off-topic thread. Bunch of nothingness (besides the free food hookups) and yet, it's fun!

Where on the planet do they have attractive traffic lights, pray tell? People find the silliest things to focus on!!
