Okay I am in a panic. To begin, I have been bad. Real bad. I didn't winterize and I didn't water during the winter drought. My once beautiful yard has been reduced to dirt and brown St. Augustine roots. I have been watering for 2 weeks now and I fertilized with Scotts Bonus S. I have seen very little result. I know I get what I deserve, but I was wondering if I should be more patient or if i should put down some new Augustine. I have runners and they are growing and some of the brown is coming back to life. I don't have a lot of money to spend on grass, and every dime I do will buy me an evil, "I told you so stare from my wife, and my conscience". I know with out seeing my yard it would be hard to say but I will take what ever advice you might have.

Lay down a thin layer of compost over the lawn ASAP and water it in before watering restrictions (likely, barring unforeseen rain) go into effect in a few weeks. That'll get your grass nicely summer-ized and better prepared to only be watered once a week.

Bowie is right, compost is the key. I had a trouble yard a few years ago. I used Scotts once every season (winter, spring, summer, fall) and put down compost in the spring. It's a great natural approach. Careful on the chemicals, though. Your yard has to be healthy first before those really work. Above all, PATIENCE! If your yard is in that bad of shape, then think long term. I doubt you will be able to grow thick green grass this year, especially considering the drought we are in. Just focus on rehabing it for next year and years to come. Hope this helps.

Try Fertile Garden. They're in the Culebra/1604 area. They have a website also.
