Hi All!
We're looking for some of the lesser-known but too-great-to-miss day trip routes to fill the next few months we have left here in San Antonio.
A great reply would be about a day trip that includes some scenic/historic/relevant stops along the way, may have a theme, includes routes, and can be done in a day or perhaps an easy overnight.
Not looking for the obvious Fredericksburg or Corpus trips, I can get those off of Frommers. I'm counting on the good folks of CD to give me some new ideas that will help round out our years in Texas and leave us wanting to stay!

interests: food, culture, history, art, antiques, nature, parks...the list goes on!

I'm looking forward to the suggestions!

Go down Bandera, 16 until it turns into just 16, then when you get to the end, take a right. Go towards Kerrville then the trip is awesome. It's steep!

I've been meaning to do this one, but haven't made the time yet. The trip on I-10 will be pretty boring, however:

This is an awesome trip. Also, instead of going all the way to Kerrville you can turn left on 470 in Bandera and go up to Vanderpool. You can also turn left on 337 in Medina and it will take you to Vanderpool also.
It's a nice little drive, and BEAUTIFUL. 337 is more winding than 470.
There is a river that runs through Vanderpool, you can pack a picnic lunch and just pull over at the river.
