I think any negative opinions regarding the nouveau riche today have more to do with lottery winners, actors, and athletes (and the foolish admirers who mimic their sometimes outlandish behavior) rather than the more bootstrap-oriented millionaire L3XVS might be referring to.

Yes, I've read those books and they are indeed fascinating.

I'm not trying to argue here, but I never saw much difference between old and new money. That's just my opinion.
So we gathered.

+3 for that one Linda

BTW, I was told this morning that I'm just a low-life suburbanite that has not taste in food. The good thing is my dad probably has more money than everyone in this thread put together. However, that's his and it also has nothing to do with this thread, which is exactly why I'm sharing it, because almost every post in here has absolutely nothing to do with anything and definitely isn't interesting.. I'm trying to fix that for a minute, though.

I'm glad to hear you've read those books, because they're excellent, but I'm not exactly sure what the dig at my age was supposed to mean. That I can't contribute because you're older than me, or that your age makes your anecdotes and positions less assailable by a young whippersnapper such as myself? Either way, I don't think you're out for a discussion, but to stand on your soap box for a while about the perceived slights and slings and arrows you feel you are accosted with.

Therefore, I leave with an admonishment of my grandfather's that has always stuck in the back of my head: "What was Old Money before it was old? New Money."

Well, there are those who define themselves by how much money they have and those who don't. Perhaps old vs new is just a sub-category of an already problematic discussion.

I think we need to start a new educational thread titled:

"Places where 'new money' goes to shop vs 'old money'......."
