I will be moving to San Antonio soon. I am a single mother of three. I will be going to graduate school at UTSA. I need to rent a house or apartment BUT the thing is I need good schools. I have read that 78258 is a great area but right now I am carless. A tree fell on in and I do not have money to replace it.

Can someone tell me an area that I can move that is close to UTSA that a woman with a family can live peacefully.

Thanks in advance

78258 is pretty pricey. Schools are great though. Depending on what you're looking for expand your area down to 78249, 78230, 78231, 78248, and 78256. That should give you a start. I live in 78249 and have a 4/2 in a nice neighborhood with good schools within a 5-15 minute drive (depending on traffic) to UTSA and pay 1200/mnth. You'll be in NISD or NEISD depending on those zips

I live at the View @ Encino Commons, which is on 281N and Evans Rd by Stone Oak. It is in a nice area, with low crime, the apartments are large. The area is clean as well. I rent a 2/2 with a 2 car garage, it's about 1200sq feet of living space. It is pronbably in the top 5 with regards to nice apartment complexes. The zip is 78259, it's not extremely close to UTSA but not far either. My only complaint is traffic on 281.

To be painfully honest with you, not having a car is going to be tough here in San Antonio.

You can survive without a car in SA, but not in those zip codes. Living and working downtown is the only viable option for that...

78258: Do your research on Apartment Review websites (google it), pick apart the amenities and ask lots of questions. All that glitters is not gold.
