I kinda get what the OP was getting at, because when I was at the courthouse yesterday I swear I was the only person speaking english there.

I remember the first time I went to the River Center movie theater.. and the commercials before the previews were in Spanish!

(This was in 2000, btw.)

We moved here from Nashville in 2007 and don't speak Spanish. You will be fine.
And Jadcock, I went to UT and lived in K-town when I was first married! Love Knoxville!

I guarantee you most of the Spanish speakers can speak English.

I agree. That is a huge misconception about SA. When you look at people you might see "Mexican", but most people here and their families are from here, and are as American as you or I.

Right? That's what bugs me the most about this type of post. San Antonio is an AMERICAN city. OF COURSE you don't need to speak ANY language besides English.

San Antonio is rightfully proud of its Mexican-American heritage, and well it should be but last time I checked San Antonians were American citizens.

Drives me NUTS when people ask that "Do I have to speak Spanish" question.

Sorry. Tangential rant.

It's funny, because when I lived in CO, if there were hispanic workers at McD's or the like, they hardly spoke English (which doesn't bother me at all). But here, everyone does. So perhaps that is why people who aren't from here have that misconception?
