The brush pickup crews were working yesterday. Although I didn't see them picking up in my neighborhood, I saw a few city flatbed trucks that do those pickups hauling brush to the brush facility on Bitters.

FYI normal garbage collection occurred for me yesterday, as well. Most holidays are unaffected these days as far as trash pickup. Exceptions are the big 5 (New Years, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas).

IIRC, don't the flyers that get distributed just prior to brush collection say "beginning xyz/date"??? Our neighborhood just recently had brush pick up, and I thought for sure that the wording on the notice flyer was something to that effect. (And I was uber surprised that they did pick up on that date, as it's frequently been several days after the beginning date that they get here.)

The last few years, the City of San Antonio has observed the following holidays for garbage/recycling/brush pickup: New Years Day, MLK, Thanksgiving, Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day. There have been few exceptions to this schedule.

Bulk pickup is a nice service. Not every locale offers it, and free at that. Most of the stuff that gets put out in my neighborhood gets picked up by craigslisters, though.

Very true. Where I used to live, we had to purchase a sticker from the city for each large item we set out. The fee for the sticker started at $10 and varied depending on the size and hazardousness of the item.

If I remember correctly, the wording simply stated to have all items out on the curb by 7am on May 25th or risk not having your bulk picked up at all.
I am pretty suprised there were any pick ups going on yesterday, trash included. But meh,

Good thing there was no pick up yesterday in our neighborhood. The melodious sound of multiple chainsaws filled the air and we saw loads of people out dragging tree branches, etc to the curb.

Free? Really? Then I want some of my taxes back...seeing as how I will be paying $9,000 in property taxes to the city this year. I would hardly say that this service is free. Not to mention that on my CPS bill there is a Garbage and Brush Fee. This is hardly a free service.
I don't like it when we get excited or congratulate someone for just doing their job. Kind of like getting excited when an employee shows up for work...isn't that what they are supposed to do?
We pay big property taxes a portion of which goes to the city of San Antonio and then we pay a fee every month in our CPS bill. They had better pick up our trash and brush - we are paying for it.
Don't get me wrong - I am glad our city offers this service...but for the taxes we pay - they had better!!!
