It's comin' up! I love the Folklife festival, even though it's hot. VIA is doing the Park n Ride thing again this year, too. See you there!

Looks interesting!

Kerrville just had a folk music festival. I thought this was the same thing, but it's a bit different.

Thanks for the reminder! This is such an awesome event, lots of interesting things to do and learn about. I think its a great thing for people who have frustrations about the lack of "diversity" and inclusion of other cultures, besides Mexican/Hispanic influence in SA. Looking forward THE FOOOOOD!!!! *drool*

We will be there Friday! We try to attend every year. I think it's a shame so many people don't go, I think the name puts some people off, it doesn't sound as fun as it is! It's kind of hard to describe.

Here are a few tips for firt timers:

Good shoes, sunscreen, you know the drill!

A tote bag or shopping bags are a good idea for all free items/giveaways you will accumulate, or items you purchase.

Inside, you can purchase coins or tickets to use for food/games, the tickets must be used this year, the coins you can use next year if you have any left over.

If you live anywhere near a Via park and ride location, take it! Much better than looking for parking. and you will appreciate being able to just sit on the way home.

Advance tickets at HEB are cheaper than at the gate.

The Institute of Texan Cultures museum is free, and has restrooms and water fountains. It's a great place to cool off during the day, and there's lots to see there. They often have free crafts for kids, and usually have one presentation you have to buy tickets for, last year was a "ghost tour", I think the year before was about dinosaurs.

They sell festival grab bags filled with items from past Folklife's, plus Fiesta, Oysterbake and other SA events, lots of goodies, posters, shirts, glasses, other memoribilia. Usually a great value, they went up last year and were a little smaller. Still, worth checking out.

You can veiw festival food options and prices on the website, and plan your budget in advance. In general, I think prices are very resonable for a festival, ave prices about $4

Unconfirmed, but I heard they will not have haggis this year

Excellent tips! I won't miss the haggis....but if the Lebanese booth is not there with their to-die-for kebobs, I'm NOT going! Yum-O!

Anyone else think the ITC should relocate to the River North area near SAMA?

Yes, but this is from the website:

If you need access to handicapped parking, it is recommended that VIAtrans be considered as a more convenient and viable transportation option.

Once you're there, though, I would say it's wheelchair friendly--keeping in mind that's coming from someone who has never had to deal with that. But it is outdoors, with sidewalks, so I'm still sticking with "yes". You can also go into the Institute of Texan Cultures (to cool off!) and I'm sure that is wheelchair friendly.

I believe the museum itself is accessable, however much of the festival is on grass or dirt. You might check the website for contact info or call the museum
