About 10 or 15 miles south of San Antonio on I-37, there is a very large hole that looks very much like a meteor crater. It is on the east side of the highway very close to the rest area on the north bound side. It is easily visible from the highway. I have not been able to find any information on this. Does anyone know anything about it? It does not appear to be man made.
thanks.

Can't be sure I'm looking at where you are talking about, but there are several lakes in/around the Pleasanton area. Maybe it's one that just dried up?

Probably a dried up stock tank.

That's WAY more than 10-15 miles out! But yeah, looks like a crater.

Well...it's certainly interesting. Many stock tanks are formed along a creek bed that is damned up.....or there is a pump nearby to keep it filled. I don't see either.

But it has an oval shape to be a meteor crater. Google "meteor crater" and then click on images. The all seem to be more round....some even sort of rounded rectangular....and they all seem to have sort of a ridge or lip around the upper edge. Very interesting....and mysterious!

It's likely to be man-made because there's something that looks like an unfinished pyramid on the SE side of it.

Reminds me of Cahokia Mounds in Illinois, that is an unfinished pyramid

I was told many years ago that this feature is the remains of a uranium mining pit. Uranium was surface-mined for decades in areas southeast of San Antonio between IH 37 and Hwy. 181 (Falls City).
