Hello

I'm currently looking for a home (preferably Stone Oak area) and came across The Villages at Stone Oak.

They're built my McMillin and backs to Stone Oak park. I just wanted to post and see if anyone had any experience with the area, builder and/or anything else.

Also, is anyone aware of similar homes in/around Stone Oak?

Thanks!

If your specifically looking for a home on the park, that is pretty hard to beat. If you haven't done so, I recommend you walk on the paths to see which neighborhoods they are connected to.

Ie. Be sure to walk the NW side of the park, and also the SE part that connects to bush middle school.

I'm not specifically looking to be on the park. I just happened to come across this subdivision with the homes and price being in the area of what I'm looking for.

I'd take a look at Canyon Rim up the street. The lots are little bigger, and they are elevated.

For a price comparison I'd also look at Villas at Canyon Springs.

Do you have any more information on the Villas at Canyon Springs? Website? Building?
I did a quick search, but didn't find anything that had detailed information.

I don't think they have a website beause the builder has sold all these homes already, but you'll be happy to hear that they are also built by
McMillin. These homes are more spanish - tuscan style, with red tile roofs. There are several for sale in this gated sub-division and it is loated on Canyon Golf Rd.

The McMillin neighborhood has tiny lots. I have walked the path behind that neighborhood all the way to the middle school. Great park - but when you are behind the McMillin homes it is literally 10-15' to the back door from the fence. Might as well be in a condo?! The houses are nicely designed from a curb appeal standpoint but don't know much about the quality. Gordon Hartman/McMillin (like every other builder) has had spotty quality it seems. Their nicer communities have better finish out than the cheaper ones. If you like the proximity to the park but want a larger lot and four sides brick (McMillin doesn't offer that - part of the reason they are so cheap for a new Stone Oak house) check out Saddle Mountain which is on the other side of the park. Nice community. The biggest asset both communities offer is backing up to that beautiful park.

Isn't Saddle Mountain the neighborhood that clear cut the land? If so, you couldn't pay me to live there. They destroyed that hillside.

Yes - the first phase wasn't clear cut but the second phase was. Really a shame. The outgoing president of that builder made some bad decisions...and clear cutting the lots on several of his nicer communities was one of them.
