IIRC, either the article or the web site said that admission for each able companion of the disabled person would be $5.

KSAT has tweeted a few times today that there will be a story about Morgan's Wonderland on tonight's edition of ABC World News. A version's already up on the web.

Default Morgan's Wonderland Park for special needs children

Morgan's Wonderland Park in San Antonio, TX is the very first park designed with special needs children in mind. It is inexpensive - free for the children, free parking and only $5.00 per person for the caregivers. You can bring in your own food and picnic at the pavilions, but they do not have lockers to keep the food in at this point. You need to make reservations before you go since they intend to keep the crowds manageable. Everything is wheel chair accessible. All signs are brailled.

First of all, it was very low key and not crowded at all. I am sure that when they get more known, it will be a bit more crowded than it was, but they plan to keep the crowds reasonable.

It has:
A train ride (not long, but very nice and for train lover Nikhi, it was heaven). The train has wheelchair accessibility as does everything in the park.
A playground that is very cool with all kinds of play pieces that you can climb on, swing on, etc. Again this is all wheelchair accessible and signs are in braille as well.
A sand area with three small sandpits and a sand table in the middle. Diggers are in each sandpit. Shovels, pails and some other sandtoys are provided.
A water works similar to the ones you might see in Children's museums (Houston has one like it). This was smaller than the one in Houston's children's museum, but because there were less people, the kids could actually play in it easily without having to contend for toys or space.
A sensory garden with a shadow display that is amazing, riding on fake rodeo horses was a favorite for Sabrina in this one.
A carousel with wheelchair accessibility and lots of fun animals to ride on. Sabrina rode on an eagle and pretended she was flying. Nikhi got to ride on a tiger.
Several nice picnic pavilions (you can bring your own food and drink into the park - no alcohol, of course). There is a concession stand (overpriced and not offering a lot at this point, but it does have sandwiches and snack food as well as bottled water and soft drinks and juices).
A music making playground with lots of fun instruments to play and explore.
An off road car ride (that was not open yet)
An event center (I assume they may have shows, but they did not have anything while we were there).
Spacious restrooms scattered around the park.

The locator wristband technology allows you to let your child roam without fear. You can always check on where he or she is by his wristband number and find him. The park is not so hugh that s/he is likely to get lost, but s/he might wander out of sight.

They plan to have a network of these nationwide eventually, but they will need a lot of corporate sponsors and donations. This had to be quite costly to build. The inspiration for the park, Morgan, was 16 when the park opened this year and her picture is up on the wall along with some facts about her. She is beautiful.

They have about 30% disabled employees as well. (I asked about that).

The people were friendly and sweet.

Oops! I was posting on your other thread whilst the mods were moving it here!

I said that I've been happily anticipating the opening of this park for months, and watching the building process via their Facebook page.

This is such a wonderful thing for San Antonio and the region! It just warms my heart.

I've already gone through the volunteer training and spent some time at the park a few weekends ago (the week that it was really icky). It is truly an amazing place.

I need to find time to do some more volunteering.

I commend Mr Hartman on his new project. Maybe it's to make up for the goofy things he did when he was building houses.

I wonder if the money he charged for the people living in his houses was used to fund this project (Forget what it was called) Some community thing where ..letters might be sent out to people in the community to remind them to mow their lawn..stuff like that. It wasn't gated because there were no gates.
